Laying Bare

This project reimagines the female nude portrait by challenging historical conventions within nude photography. Traditional representations have often confined women to narrow roles—over-sexualised, idealised, or clinically detached—while excluding diversity in age and body type. The series centres the natural effects of gravity on the human form, presenting bodies as they exist rather than as they are expected to appear. Set against a sunken black backdrop, the figures occupy a liminal space removed from societal projection. Soft, ethereal lighting encourages a quiet, intimate engagement, inviting the viewer to encounter the nude body with honesty, dignity, and openness.
